A Roast Too Far

What a gloriously sunny day we had today! Maureen and I took Ms Pietersens for a walk in Kenwood. We thought it would be nice to go and have a Sunday roast in The Spaniards. However, at 2.00, when we arrived on foot from Bishops Avenue, the place was heaving inside and out. What time do you serve food until?’, we enquired of the non English speaking waitress, ‘All day’, was her response. Although we were particularly hungry, we decided to go and have a walk first and come back. We had a massive walk in Kenwood, Ms Pietersens walking in between us, so as not to get crushed on the busier paths. As per normal, I led us the wrong way and we walked for miles, in flip-flops, absolutely no energy, feeling really hungry. We eventually arrived back at The Spaniards at 4.15 to a much quieter scene. As we walked up to the bar to order, the board caught my eye, ‘Sorry, kitchen closed‘. ‘The kitchen’s closed’, I informed Maureen, who looked at me in complete disbelief. As we stood there in shock, a solitary roast dinner could be seen on the servery in the kitchen. ‘Shall we take that one and go and sit over there and eat it?’, Maureen said. We stood there contemplating the possibility for a full five minutes, while the delicious looking roast sat there going cold, but there was 100% no way, so we left, hungry.

My dear friend Agneedy and I are totally unphotogenic; guaranteed to look hideous in a photo, whatever the light. Many years ago we devised a system whereby one could look natural and kind of mid-sentence in a photo and ‘Brian said’ was born. So here’s how it goes; whilst taking up the pose, take a breath and say ‘Brian said …’ and then the snap is taken – ridiculous!

Today I was in Kenwood with my daughter LL and my Auntie R (sister of P) – if you haven’t been to Kenwood in Highgate and you have the opportunity, it is really divine, great photo opportunities; you just want to capture the beauty – I told them about ‘Brian said …’, so we tried it out – as we prepared to be snapped, I said ‘Brian said …’ and as the snap was taken, ‘… I’m really beautiful’.

This is the snap:-

*** OMG ***

I mailed it directly to Agneedy, who replied ‘I thought Brian said you looked more like Pam Ayres!!!’.

Think we need another strategy – any tips welcome.
